@Tnuc taf 🤔 You're a wonderful person from my guessing game. Some KIDS get to go to the Elite schools & have access to extremely well funded programs that will make them, the school and possibly a Country 🇺🇸🇷🇺🇨🇳 richer💸 beyond your imagination. It's the *Sports World of Geeks* & the geeks get paid with no problems. THIS has been the way it's been forever. But poor Black Athletes -kids- got a different set of rules. But you don't know & you don't care about it. 😉 A student on scholarship for science, music, etc can make money at school and benefit the school. An athlete can't earn 💩 not even a free meal in somebody's 🏠. The government kinda works the same way in that you can't give or take a free lunch unless you're in the current administration and just operate by -a- -different- your own set of rules. The Attorney General Minion Barr just gave $30,000 to Donald for a Xmas party. Vice president of 🇺🇸 made 200k+ go to Donald's 🏦 account. There's something called the Emoluments clause in the 🇺🇸 Constitution. It's ALWAYS been there. The student athlete rule was set to keep BLACK people in a place. What other people generate a high rate of revenue and Do NOT earn and they're NOT allowed to earn a penny?! *-Slaves-* Capitalism & Racism in Harmony. #NCAA 🇺🇸🤫 I don't belong to any political party nor do I live in the USA. 😒 Take care kid. 😘

Cancun American why should you get your education paid for and be paid by the school as well? You might as well be a professional at that point. Do you actually think people go to schools like Harvard for sports or an education? The answer is education. Those schools wouldn’t be so prestigious if really smart people didn’t attend, therefore the school is getting more money from attendance because of those smart individuals. I say sports have no place in college anyway. College sports suck in general. If I want to watch athletes I want to see the best of the best and college doesn’t have that.

The fact that she made a positive disclaimer is great. But I just don’t know how genuine it is after basically being racist on twitter, black face and taking a bit too much from our culture. Although, people can change.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with people doing something from another culture, unless in doing so they are, specifically, mocking that culture. Hispanic in a kimono? Fine. Cultural appropriation is such a weird word because more often than not its used to describe someone embracing another culture. Cultural embrace is a good thing. Appropriation happens when the intent of the embrace is malicious, like a model wearing a kimono that they're trying to sell and trademark. That's just fucked up. I think it also happens when people don't put in the effort to actually understand the culture, they just think something looks nice and want to wear it. That's more gray but I lean towards the side of "if you don't understand that things purpose in the cultural context it comes from then you shouldn't be wearing it".

Well, the point of university is to learn. Sports are a side gig. Its great that we have scholar athletes not just athletes, especially at elite schools. Having a scholarship is already a big deal and saves a ton of money. People say these athletes are starving, but what about the people who didn't get anything at all? I think that's the bigger issue here. That plays into the idea that it makes it worse for the entire NCAA. People aren't going to be looking for degrees, they're just gonna push for sports, when it's a darn university where people are going there to study. Dont get me wrong. I'm an athlete too, and I also know many that study hard and play hard. When people are incentived to just grind the game, what's the point of studying or going to university at all?

Collage sports is a process to weed out the weak and promote the strong to pro. If collages have to pay them, a lot of people who get sports scholarships and then do something other than sports with their time will be removed before they can even start. Collages won't want to pay people they don't deem good enough. They will move the process down to high school level and most kids who usually get scholarships will be left in the cold.

13:30 I completely agree. It took me a long time before I finally got the courage to seek outside help because I was told that I wasn’t normal for not being able to handle life on my own. It was seen as lesser or strange or wrong to go seek therapy. A lot of my family don’t believe in mental illness in general and think it’s pseudoscience, and those who do believe it’s just taking some pills and magically you’re better. But let me say as a psychology major, it is most certainly not just a magic pill. There’s no quick fix, no miracle elixir that can solve it, nor is it unnecessary. Therapy has helped me tremendously when I finally decided that I wasn’t weak or ‘different’ for needing to get it. Just having somebody to unload all your worries, anxieties, and stress on is absolutely critical and super important for anybody, even if you don’t struggle with mental illness. It’s being able to talk about things with an outside party without having to worry about their own bias or judgement. They can look at your situations from an outsiders perspective and give you constructive advice on how to handle them, or at least work with you until you can manage them. That alone is enough for me, even though I do struggle with my share of inner demons. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that therapy and professional help for mental illness is a joke and not worth it. You are worth it, and you deserve some help dealing with things that you can’t handle alone. Nobody can handle life alone and whoever says they can is straight up *lying* to you. Everybody has their vices, but let yours be a healthy one. Seek professional help, not permanent or life threatening alternatives. You are worth so much more than you think.

The biggest piece of this NCAA issue that doesn't get talked about nearly enough is scholarships. I've heard quite often people believe athletes get their college tuition paid for so it's a fair trade, but the reality is the vast majority of student athletes don't get full scholarships, and those who do still have expenses on top of that. More often there is a partial scholarship to cover books or something other than full tuition, which is great, but not even close to the amount the schools make off of the athletes' image. The saddest thing is we're not even talking about paying the players, just that they don't get disqualified by the NCAA for having a picture up in a barber's window or having a NOplayer channel that generates revenue. It's insane they can own a student like that.

That's how you push culture forward, by integrating new practices that you see from others. I have no problem with this, because this is how EVERY culture in history has progressed. I have a bunch of White friends with dreadlocks. Do you know how they usually get treated in Africa? just like other black guys with dreadlocks. Cultures are like treasures that get better when you share them with someone who's not from your culture. It lets you connect to people that you may have never spoken too just because they like something about your culture or you like theirs. We have to give people space to make mistakes so that they can learn more.

Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. And that's just for black US-America. The list goes on for how US-America mistreated First Nations, too, and the violations of treaties, massacre, war crimes, etc. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole.* And yes, I recounted the wisdom of Ta-Nehisi Coates in loosely paraphrasing/quoting him. As a side note, I will add that, of course I am on #TeamNikita on this issue. Although I barely know who she is and couldn't care less, 1) SHE IS CLEARLY OPERATING WITH THE GOOD FAITH INTENTIONS OF AN ALLY AND 2) DREAD LOCKS ARE UNIVERSALLY A PART OF HUMAN HISTORY ACROSS ALL RACES AND CULTURES AND ALTHOUGH SHE (NIKITA) CITES INSPO FROM BLACK WOMEN, IT IS A FACT THAT DREADS ARE NOT THE SOLE PROVINCE OF BLACK PEOPLE. So let's just think about maybe moving away from culture-appreciation-shaming and cultural-exchange-policing and actually make reparations as well as repairs to the current and longstanding injustices in the world. Rather than utterly nitpicking and witch-hunting things done either with clear wokeness and allyship and pure, or innocent intentions.
